It's about Băneasa Forest! Located just 10 km from the city center, Băneasa Forest is a true oasis near the Capital, remaining the most sought-after area for recreation and leisure.

Many people don't know that Băneasa Forest has the largest green space in the area. It is 3-4 times larger than Herăstrău Park (currently named King Michael I Park of Romania) and Tineretului Park.

Forget your daily worries for at least half an hour and go for a hike in the forest. Relax, connect with nature, and recharge with positive energy for the day ahead.

2. Is Băneasa Forest a successor to the Vlăsia Forests?

The Codrii Vlăsiei was the name given to the forests that once covered a large region in the south Romania, including the city's territory Bucharest and Ilfov County. Currently, the following green areas remain of the Codrii Vlăsiei in the vicinity of the Capital: Pustnicu Forest – Pustnicu and Pasărea Monasteries, Snagov Forest – Snagov Monastery, Comana Forest – Comana Monastery, Râioasa Forest, and Băneasa Forest.

Băneasa, the renowned district in the northern part of Bucharest, is popular, among other things, for its tourist attractions. This district significantly enriches the capital's map with the following tourist attractions: the Arc de Triomphe, the Village Museum, Herăstrău Park, the House of the Free Press, the Miorița Fountain, and important villas such as Nicolae Minovici Villa and Dumitru-Furnica Minovici Villa, the latter also being home to the Museum of Western Old Art. If these are the most well-known and appreciated tourist attractions in the Băneasa area, you should know that there are others that remain in the shadows for many people. The first is the monument „The last defender of the capital”, which was erected in memory of Sergeant Cavalryman Nicolae Păianu, who fell in the line of duty during the battles for the defense of the Capital on November 22, 1916. The monument symbolize Bucharest's resistance against the enemy during World War I.

The second monument very few people know about is Mauriciu Blank Mausoleum, The cemetery has been left to ruin after the heirs left the country. If you wish to see the building, keep the following landmarks in mind – it is across the street from the Alexandru Ioan Cuza Police Academy, and access is from Padina Alley. This is the burial place of the landowners who once owned the Băneasa forest, but the remains of the Blank family are no longer there, having been moved over 50 years ago to the Jewish Cemetery. The most well-known member of the family is Mauriciu Blank, who was a founding member of the Marmorosch Blank Bank.

Starting March 2020, will Băneasa Forest have the status of a ”protection forest"?

Good news, which many have been eagerly awaiting, is that Băneasa Forest will have the status of a ”protection forest" and "park forest" starting in March. What does this mean? It means it will be protected by law and tree cutting will no longer be permitted, as stated by the Minister of Environment himself.
