Emotions in the first year of marriage, in your own home

Back to blog

The long-awaited wedding took place, and since then, you've been living with him and his parents. They are nice and friendly, but living under the same roof with them every day isn't quite what you dreamed of. A few months ago, moving in with your in-laws until you could save up for your own apartment seemed like the best idea in the world. Now, it doesn't seem like that at all.

Ideally, you would have your own place, your own home, where you could lay the foundations for your new family without any interference. And for that, we invite you to see 2-room, 3-room, and 4-room apartments in Greenfield, a green and responsible neighborhood in Northern Bucharest.

The journey together is just beginning; along the way, there might be some emotions, and you might encounter various obstacles, but what's important is to overcome them together.

The first year of marriage is a very important one. It has been called by therapists the „wet cement year” because it is the period when both members of a couple figure out how to live as partners without getting stuck, without developing bad habits that could break them up over time. The first year is ideal for establishing good patterns and ways of being together that should continue for the rest of your marriage.

What can you do to ensure a good start for the two of you, whether it's a marriage or a relationship that hasn't been formalized yet?

Start by making a simple house into a home

Create a space where the two of you can spend as much time together as possible, and that means without in-laws/parents. Just the two of you in a home that doesn't feel like a hotel/office where two people arrive home in the evening. Create a comfortable and cozy space. You can start by decorating with blankets, candles, and elements that you both like and make you feel comfortable.

Who says you have to forget about romantic moments?

Make constant efforts to win over your partner. At home, don't spend all your time in your most comfortable clothes. And, perhaps most importantly, forget about your phone and social media and give your partner your time!

Not all days are pink and perfect!

Talk about flaws, imperfections, and the things that bother you. Many would say that marriage/living together is like a pleasant and quiet walk. I'd say it's more like a mountain marathon, where some days you'll have to overcome various obstacles, reach the mountaintop, and then quickly descend. Not everything will turn out perfectly, so you shouldn't worry too much about it. What's important is to overcome problems easily, not to go to bed angry, and to have space to retreat into your own shell when needed. And you won't be able to do these things at your own pace as a couple when you live with your in-laws or, in some cases, share a rented apartment with another couple.

Focus on the positive, not the negative

Complaining about everything your partner does isn't the best idea and doesn't help you at all. What's more, it keeps you in a state of upset. So, before you constantly judge them, remember to also appreciate their good qualities. And if you do see them, tell them these things as well and thank them for all the nice things and surprises they do.

Keep learning, growing, and trying new things together.

How can you maintain that initial spark in a marriage or relationship? The answer is relatively simple: keep adventuring together, just like you did at the beginning. Adventure, novelty, taking risks, and trying new activities can trigger the release of dopamine in the brain.

Choosing a home can bring you a lot of emotions and joys, so we await you on a beautiful autumn day to see what apartments we have available and to choose a house, which will become home, in the neighborhood surrounded by forest.
