How to care for nature at the beginning of spring

Back to blog

The arrival of spring is always a cause for joy, especially for those who don't have an affinity for the cold season. Nature gradually comes back to life, the weather warms up, making us feel more energetic and eager to make changes in our lives. What if this year you added spring nature care to your list of resolutions?

How can you protect nature with the arrival of warm weather?
Well, whether it's the green space around your home, a park you frequent, the forest, or even your indoor green corner, it's important to show responsibility towards the environment.

Here are some simple steps you can take during this period to help care for nature.

How to care for the green spaces around your home

The green spaces around the home are truly oases of relaxation and tranquility for tenants, so we must take care of these. Even though there is staff that periodically takes care of cleaning and various maintenance work (watering, mowing, lawn mowing, collecting dry leaves, caring for trees, shrubs, and flowers), each tenant has the responsibility to maintain order. Therefore, never throw trash on the ground, not only because it harms the beauty of the area, but also because it decomposes more slowly than you think.

If you are one of the lucky ones with access to a garden plot next to your apartment building, you can get personally involved in spring gardening. Arm yourself with the necessary tools (gloves, rake, trowel, and sprayer or watering can). You can plant ornamental shrubs, flowers, or vegetables, but only after you have cleaned the garden and prepared the soil according to the advice of experts in the field.

We have other suggestions you can implement during this time of year to prove your love for the environment. Handing in expired medications, donating old clothes, recycling electronics, used cooking oil, and paper are habits you should adopt when doing your spring cleaning (note: not during a pandemic). This way, you take care of the environment and free up your home of useful items that take up space.

What can you do to protect the forest, the lungs of the city

The Greenfield neighborhood, alongside the National Forest Company - Romsilva, which operates under the authority of the Ministry of Waters and Forests, periodically engages in forest sanitation activities.Clean & Run) or Oak grove, in accordance with the provisions of forestry arrangements and forestry regulations. But the good news is that you can also do something to take care of the forest – you can get involved as a volunteer in the clean-up actions organized by Greenfield and Romsilva, and alongside other institutions.

In recent years, such actions have been frequently organized, serving to sound an alarm and, at the same time, to encourage nature lovers. The authorities' message is that we must be more careful with nature and that we should no longer leave waste on forest trails or at campsites.

All waste collected by volunteers was transported to special storage sites for recycling or neutralization.

Welcoming spring in the green corner of the house

You can also show your affection and care for nature by houseplant care. Your little green corner at home, whether it's in the bedroom, kitchen, or on the balcony, needs a refresh every spring. Just as we change our heavy clothes and bring out our lighter spring ones, flowers also need a change.

At the beginning of the new season, plants are fertilized with liquid substances diluted in water, or with granules placed in the soil. It is important to ensure a new substrate rich in nutrients in the spring, especially if the soil has not been changed for two years and the plant is visibly affected. Consider the needs of each flower individually when buying soil, and especially if you plan to change its conditions.

Spring is a good time to take new pots to replace those that can no longer be reused or have become too small. You can move the plants to the balcony or outdoors, depending on the conditions you have. It is advisable to move them in the first part of the day or on a less sunny day, so that the plant can gradually get used to the new climate.

Every act of caring for nature matters, even if sometimes it may seem insignificant to you. Such activities will make you feel more responsible, happier with each goal achieved, and this will boost your self-confidence.
