10 Rules of Good Conduct in a Community Based on Respect and Responsibility

It's probably happened to you too, visiting a good friend who moved to another more developed country and feeling like everything there runs smoothly and you have no stress.

Maybe that's how it is, maybe everything is going very well, largely because they have a very well-established system, down to the smallest details. But more than that, most likely you had the feeling of a pleasant and civilized place also because the neighbors in the building were friendlier, and seemingly more attentive and more...responsible!

We know you want to have the same feeling in your country, in the neighborhood and building where you live, so the best advice we can give you is to be the first model neighbor! Be that person everyone describes as „the ideal neighbor”!

We believe that harmony is possible, which is why we have selected a few unwritten rules below that are necessary in a community.

Greet your neighbors!

It's a gesture of minimal respect and a sign of good upbringing. Whether you're in the mood or not, they are your neighbors, and even if you don't want to become too friendly with them, a simple „Hello!” is an initiative that costs you nothing.

Respect quiet hours!

No one is saying you shouldn't listen to music, but not at full volume at 1 AM when some of your neighbors need to rest. Avoid making loud noises. Loud noise late at night is bothersome and can even lead to fines.

Take care of your pet in public spaces!

No matter how adorable and well-behaved your four-legged friend is, consider that there are also people who are allergic or simply don't want to pet a dog/cat, and it's best to prevent your pet from interacting with such people in its excitement.

If you live in Greenfield, we have good news: we have organized a park dedicated to pets, located in the Willow neighborhood. Over time, we aim for it to look better and better, but we also need the care of the locals to keep the space clean.

Recycle and be mindful of where you dispose of your trash!

Perhaps the most common „innocent mistake” is indifference towards how we dispose of anything that no longer serves us.

Do not smoke in hallways or in closed public spaces!

Smoking is not allowed in the apartment building's hallway. No matter how impatient you may be, there may be non-smokers, pregnant women, or people with heart conditions among the building's residents. Why would you force them to inhale cigarette smoke when it is not a personal choice?

Return the envelopes that aren't yours!

Received a letter by mistake? Put it in the correct mailbox yourself. Or hand it over to your neighbor in person.

The pizza delivery guy has arrived, and you're tempted to take the already paid-for order? Remember, you wouldn't like to go hungry either, so please direct the delivery guy to the right apartment.

Protect your privacy!

Even if Greenfield maintains the required distance between buildings, don't forget to draw your curtains at home when necessary. You protect yourself and show respect to those around you.

Common areas are... common!

When you want to use the common space in the hallway or basement, make sure you have notified your neighbors so that they can benefit from this space equally. Respect and take care of the building's common space; do not block it for personal use. You wouldn't like your floor neighbor to do the same, would you?

Don't do public shaming, find solutions!

Social media is an extremely useful channel, but because it encourages outward expression, there's a tendency during tense moments to denigrate someone through posts and comments, which doesn't do anyone any good. We recommend focusing on solutions, not on contradictory discussions. Fleeting emotions will pass, and interpersonal relationships take precedence.

Don't take your neighbor's parking spot!

Of course, there are extreme cases involving real emergencies, but that's not what we're talking about. Out of convenience, you yourself might be the one to park in your neighbor's spot because it's closer to the building than yours, you have some groceries to carry, and you forget to move the car. It's unpleasant for the owner to come and find their spot occupied, so remember the proverb: Do not do unto others what you would not have them do unto you!

In the Greenfield Băneasa residential neighborhood, each apartment owner must purchase a parking space, regardless of whether they currently own a vehicle, and there are designated spots for visitors.

Does it seem impossible? There are no difficult rules to follow. They are actually simple and common sense, based on respect, responsibility, solidarity, and the joy of being part of a community where the desire for cooperation and well-being prevails. This is how we want the Greenfield community to be. 🙂
